The Scholars of the Sufis - They are the Genuine Followers of the Salaf

Paperback - 210 pages                                                        by Shaykh Abd al-Hadi Kharsa

The Scholars of the Sufis -

They are the Genuine Followers of the Salaf

Written by the erudite scholar, Sufi educator, ascetic, and author of many books, Sayyidi al-Shaykh `Abd al-Hadi b. al-Hajj Muhammad b. Salih al-Kharsa al-Dimashqi al-Salihi al-Shadhili al-Hanafi

The translation and publication of the present book, `Ulama’ al-Sufiyya Hum al-Salafiyya al-Haqiqiyyun is a welcome event for seekers of spiritual guidance and self-purification in our time. This praiseworthy effort offers to the English-speaking public a contemporary explanation of the immutable principles of Sufism, which are one and the same with the three principles of Religion: submission [islam], faith [iman], and excellence [ihsan]. The book contains Shaykh `Abd al-Hadi’s carefully presented anthology of the wisdom of the Sufi masters of old and their summations of doctrine [`aqida] and of the various spiritual diseases and spiritual stations and states of the wayfarer. They were gleaned from the bio-sapiental classics of the genre such as Tabaqat al-Sufiyya, the Luma`, the Risala, the Ihya’, and can be found in later works such as Tabaqat al-Awliya and al-Kawakib al-Durriyya fi Tarajim al-Sufiyya.

The vehemence of the title—shown in the emphatic-exclusive personal pronoun and translatable as ‘The Scholars of the Sufis: [Only] They are the Genuine Followers of the Salaf!’—is a reminder of the tireless efforts of the last two hundred years of Ahl al-Sunna wal-Jama`a scholarship demonstrating the Islamic orthodoxy of tasawwuf and denouncing the heresy of Wahhabism and pseudo-Salafism.

It is its unique gems that make `Ulama’ al-Sufiyya stand out such as, for example, the title’s emphasis on knowledge: it is never about the Sufis at large but about their Gnostics; as for would-be-Sufi [mutasawwif] claimants who are nescient of the Shari`a or not even concerned by it: they are also heretics and completely undesirable no matter how big they grow their beard, turban, jubba, or voice! This is a theme stressed by many of our salaf al-salih [pious predecessors]. ---Shaykh Gibril Fouad Haddad

A Sufi Master's Message - In Memorium Rene Guenon

Paperback - 76 pages

Shaykh Abd al-Wahid Pallavicini

At this critical moment in Islamic history, we would like to re-present reflections arising from the intellectual force of the doctrinal insight and metaphysical clarification of Shaykh ‘Abd al-Wahid Yahya Rene´ Gue´non. Through the collected writings of Shaykh Pallavicini, the president and founder of COREIS (Co- munita` Religiosa Islamica, the Italian Islamic Religious Com- munity), we hope to spread the wisdom underlying Islamic orthodoxy to a wider audience.

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Wahid Pallavicini’s spiritual practice and metaphysical orientation gave him the resolve to return to Italy and bring home the blessings he received in the East. Upon his initial return, Italy in the seventies and eighties was a stranger to Islam; the country had yet to experience its current level of Muslim immigration.

After having been totally unknown for many years, the shaykh’s orientation has become well received in Italy.

During those decades, Shaykh ‘Abd al-Wahid Pallavicini would meet with the ambassadors of Islamic countries for Friday prayers (jumu’ah). Oftentimes they were unable to gather even the minimum number of seven men needed to perform the ritual properly. As he worked to serve the first generation of Italian Muslims, the Shaykh contributed to the establishment of the Islamic Cultural Center of Italy that now manages the Great Mosque of Rome.

At that time, the visionary Persian prince Abolghassem Amini was the Secretary General of the Islamic Center and he exerted great effort in establishing the Cultural Center and the Great Mosque of Rome.

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Wahid Pallavicini, has functioned as an intermediary between Christianity and Islam since 1986 when he was in Assisi as one of the members of the Muslim delegation invited by Pope John Paul II to participate in the first meeting with the representatives of the world religions.

Shaykh Abd al Wahid Pallavicini is President of CO.RE.IS. (Italian Islamic Religious Community), which has branches in Italy and France. Born in Milan, he converted to Islam in 1951.

In the twenty years that followed, Shaykh ‘Abd al-Wahid Pallavicini lived in the East, where he embraced the opportunity to meet with what was perhaps the last generation of masters of Islamic esotericism (tasawwuf). He sought out masters such as Sami Effendi of the Naqshbandi Sufi order (tariqah) in Istanbul and Shaykh Hashimi of the Qadiriyah in Jerusalem.

His spiritual search, spanning from Morocco to Japan, finally brought him to Singapore, where he met Shaykh Hajj ‘Abd ar-Rashid al-Linki (1918-92) of the Ahmadiyah-Idrissiyah-Shadhiliyah brotherhood. This particular order was founded by Shaykh Ahmad ibn Idris (b. Maysur 1750; d. Yemen 1837)1 and is a branch of the ancient brotherhood of Shaykh Abu’l-Hasan ash-Shadhili (1196–1258). Shaykh Pallavicini’s frequenting of this brotherhood led Shaykh Hajj ‘Abd-ar-Rashid al-Linki to entrust him with the unexpected and unsought authorization (ijazah) to autonomously pass on spiritual influence and to initiate believers in the West.

After years in the East, in 1980 he received authorisation to organise an autonomous branch of the Islamic confraternity Ahmadiyya Idrisiyyah Shadhiliyyah in Europe in his capacity as teacher (shaykh).
